Refill Guide

What to know before refilling online.

Online refills are designed for routine, non-controlled medications you are already taking. A Michigan-licensed clinician reviews your history and authorizes a refill only when it remains appropriate.

Medically reviewed by Dr. John Venzor, Michigan-licensed physician. Last reviewed June 5, 2026. This section is educational and does not replace individualized medical advice.

How online prescription refills work

You complete a secure online form describing your medication, dosage, prescribing history, allergies, and pharmacy preference. A Michigan-licensed clinician reviews the information and may follow up if more detail is needed. If the medication is non-controlled and a refill remains appropriate, the clinician sends an electronic prescription to your pharmacy for same-day pickup in most cases.

Vyta does not automatically issue refills. If your answers suggest a dose change is needed, missing recent labs or monitoring, a new symptom, or a medication we do not refill, the clinician may recommend an in-person visit instead.

Is online prescription refilling legal in Michigan?

Yes. Under the Michigan Public Health Code (MCL 333.16284), Michigan law allows licensed clinicians to provide care and prescribe non-controlled medications through telehealth, including establishing a provider-patient relationship online. Vyta's Michigan-licensed clinicians review your medication history before authorizing a refill — and only for non-controlled medications. Controlled substances (Schedule II–V) require an in-person evaluation under state and federal rules and are not refilled online.

When an online refill is appropriate

Online refills suit stable, routine medications you have taken before without recent problems — for example birth control, thyroid, blood pressure, allergy, acne, or hair-loss medications. The clinician confirms the medication, dose, and your history before authorizing.

When you need an in-person visit

  • A controlled substance (opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants) — we cannot refill these online
  • A medication that requires recent labs or close monitoring (for example warfarin, certain thyroid or blood-pressure adjustments)
  • A new symptom, side effect, or a dose that needs changing
  • No prescriber or recent visit on record for the medication

Medications we don't refill online

We do not refill Schedule II–V controlled substances or high-risk medications requiring intensive monitoring. This keeps online refills safe and within guidelines. If your medication falls outside what we can refill, the clinician will point you toward appropriate in-person care.

Will my pharmacy and dose stay the same?

Yes. Your refill is sent to the pharmacy you choose, at your current medication and dose, the same way any prescription is transmitted. If a change is clinically needed, the clinician discusses it with you first.
