What Texans Refill

Routine medications, renewed from anywhere in Texas.

Online refills are for non-controlled prescriptions you already take and that are still working for you. A Texas-licensed physician picks up where your last prescriber left off, so losing touch with a doctor, or living far from one, doesn't have to mean running out.

Birth Control Oral contraceptives, patch, vaginal ring, injection prep, renewed without a new-patient appointment
Acne Medications Tretinoin, topical antibiotics, doxycycline, clindamycin, refilled at the strength you already use
Thyroid Medications Levothyroxine, liothyronine, Synthroid generics, kept on schedule at your current dose
Blood Pressure Meds Lisinopril, amlodipine, metoprolol, losartan, and more, renewed without a drive into town
Hair Loss Treatments Finasteride, minoxidil, dutasteride for men and women
Allergy Medications Cetirizine, fexofenadine, montelukast, nasal sprays, refilled before you run out
Not refilled through this service

Vyta.co does not prescribe or refill controlled substances (Schedule II to V) through this service, which rules out opioids, benzodiazepines, and stimulants. We also don't refill warfarin or other medications that need close lab monitoring. If your medication needs labs or a recent in-person visit, the physician will tell you.

Coverage, Distance, Doctors

A routine refill shouldn't depend on insurance, distance, or a waitlist. In Texas, it often does.

Renewing a blood pressure or thyroid prescription takes a few minutes of clinical review. Getting that review in Texas can mean paying for a full office visit without coverage, driving to the next county, or looking for a doctor in an area the federal government classifies as short on primary care.

One flat price, anywhere in Texas: $39 for the visit, reviewed by a physician licensed by the Texas Medical Board, and $0 if a refill isn't appropriate.

Uninsured at Twice the Rate

In 2024, 16.7 percent of Texans had no health insurance, against 8.2 percent nationally, and Texas had the highest uninsured rate of any state in every age group (Census Bureau, 2024 American Community Survey). Without coverage, renewing a maintenance medication can mean paying for an office visit out of pocket. Here the visit is a flat $39.

The Most Rural Residents of Any State

The 2020 Census counted 4,744,808 rural Texans, more than in any other state (Census Bureau), and as of 2022, 71 rural Texas counties had no hospital (Texas Comptroller). A refill doesn't need the drive. The review happens online and the prescription goes to the nearest pharmacy you choose.

Between Doctors

As of September 30, 2026, 8,754,402 Texans live in federally designated primary care Health Professional Shortage Areas, more than in any other state (HRSA). If you moved, lost your doctor, or can't get a new-patient appointment just to renew a prescription you already take, a Texas-licensed physician can review it online.

Skip the office visit for a routine Texas refill.

When a prescription runs out and there's no regular doctor to call, the usual options are an office visit, urgent care, or a video appointment. A Texas-licensed physician can renew the same non-controlled medication from a written form for a flat $39.

Refill Guide

What to know before refilling a prescription online in Texas.

Online refills are for routine, non-controlled medications you already take. A physician licensed by the Texas Medical Board reviews your history and authorizes a refill only when it is still appropriate. Nothing is approved automatically.

Medically reviewed by Dr. John Venzor, Texas-licensed physician. Last reviewed October 18, 2026. This section is educational and does not replace individualized medical advice.

Is online prescription refilling legal in Texas?

Yes, and Texas is unusually clear about it. Telemedicine here is governed by Texas Occupations Code Chapter 111. Before 2017 the state effectively required a face-to-face or live-video encounter first. Senate Bill 1107 removed that: Section 111.005 now lets a physician establish a valid practitioner-patient relationship and prescribe from a written record of your history and symptoms, without a prior in-person exam and without a video call. The medications refilled here, such as birth control, thyroid, blood pressure, allergy, acne, and hair-loss medications, are non-controlled, so they fall inside what a Texas-licensed physician may prescribe this way. Vyta.co does not prescribe or refill controlled substances (Schedule II to V) through this service, so opioid, benzodiazepine, and stimulant refills are not offered.

How online prescription refills work in Texas

You fill out a secure form with your medication, dose, prescribing history, allergies, and the Texas pharmacy you want to use. That written record is what Chapter 111 contemplates, which is why no video call is scheduled. A Texas-licensed physician reviews it and follows up by message if a detail needs sorting out. If the medication is non-controlled and the refill is still appropriate, an electronic prescription goes to your pharmacy for same-day pickup in most cases.

A refill is a clinical decision, not an automatic approval. If your answers point to a dose change, missing labs or monitoring, a new symptom, or a medication we don't refill, the physician will recommend in-person care instead.

When an online refill is appropriate

Online refills suit stable, routine medications you have taken before without recent problems, for example birth control, thyroid, blood pressure, allergy, acne, or hair-loss medications. The physician confirms the medication, dose, and your history before authorizing.

When you need an in-person visit

  • A controlled substance (opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants), which Vyta.co does not refill
  • A medication that needs recent labs or close monitoring, such as warfarin
  • A new symptom, a side effect, or a dose that needs changing
  • No prescriber or recent visit on record for the medication

Between doctors in Texas?

If you're between primary care doctors after a move, a job change, or a retirement, a medication that was prescribed to you before and is still working can be refilled online by a Texas-licensed physician while you find ongoing care. Have your current medication list and your last prescriber's name handy. Ongoing conditions still need periodic in-person follow-up and any required lab monitoring on schedule.

Will my pharmacy and dose stay the same?

Yes. Your refill is sent to the Texas pharmacy you choose, at your current medication and dose, the same way any prescription is transmitted. If a change is clinically needed, the physician discusses it with you first.

Yes. Since Senate Bill 1107 took effect in 2017, Texas law has not required live video or a prior in-person exam to establish a practitioner-patient relationship. A Texas physician may review the written form you complete and refill a non-controlled medication on that basis. There is no video visit, no phone call, and no appointment.
