What You Get

Prescription estrogen cream, applied where it is needed.

A lubricant helps for an evening, and a moisturizer helps for a few days. Low-dose vaginal estrogen treats the cause. It restores thickness, stretch, and natural moisture to tissue that thinned as estrogen fell, and a Texas-licensed physician can prescribe it after a written visit.

FDA-approved estradiol

Generic estradiol vaginal cream 0.01% or 10 mcg vaginal tablets, the same products a gynecologist prescribes.

A low, local dose

It acts on vaginal tissue, and very little reaches the bloodstream.

Mailed, or filled at your pharmacy

Have the cream mailed to any Texas address with its applicator, or have the prescription sent to the Texas pharmacy you choose, from H-E-B to Walgreens. At a pharmacy, generic cream runs about $30 to $45 a tube with a discount card.

Tube of estradiol vaginal cream 0.01% beside a measured applicator marked in grams

Matched to your history

Your Texas-licensed physician reviews your symptoms, medications, and health history before prescribing anything.

Urinary symptoms too

Urgency and repeat UTIs after menopause often share the same cause, and vaginal estrogen lowers the risk of future UTIs.

One-time price

$49 with the cream mailed to you, or $39 with the prescription sent to your pharmacy. No membership or monthly fee, and a full refund if treatment is not right for you.

Sound Familiar?

What low estrogen feels like.

Doctors call it genitourinary syndrome of menopause, or GSM. The American Urological Association estimates it affects 27% to 84% of women after menopause, and unlike hot flashes it does not ease with time. If several of these describe you, a Texas-licensed physician can review your visit today, wherever you are in the state.

See a doctor in person first if any of these apply: you are under 40; vaginal bleeding that has not been evaluated, whether after menopause, between periods, or after sex; breast, uterine or ovarian cancer, now or in the past; a past blood clot, stroke, or heart attack; liver disease; pregnancy or breastfeeding; or new discharge with odor, sores, a lump, or pelvic pain. These need an exam or your specialist's input before vaginal estrogen.

Distance and Time

In Texas, the appointment is often the hardest part.

GSM is a long-term condition, and each new supply of estrogen starts with a new visit. In a state this size, an office visit can cost a morning on the freeway or a day on the highway. Clinicians usually recognize GSM from its symptoms, so a written visit with a Texas-licensed physician can take the place of that trip, and the cream can be mailed to any Texas address.

Across a Big Metro

In Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio, a weekday appointment can mean a drive across town and a long sit in a waiting room. Here you answer the questions on your own schedule, at lunch or late in the evening, and nobody has to book you a slot.

Far From a Gynecologist

In rural counties, the Panhandle, and West Texas, the nearest gynecologist can be hours down the highway. Your visit is reviewed online, and the cream is mailed to your door or the prescription is sent to the pharmacy in town.

No Video Call Needed

Texas law lets a physician prescribe from a written record of your history and symptoms. There is no camera to set up and no call to schedule. You type your answers in about 5 minutes, and a Texas-licensed physician reviews them within hours.

Clinical Guide

What to know before starting vaginal estrogen.

Low-dose vaginal estrogen is the best-studied treatment for menopause-related dryness and painful sex. Vyta.co screens for reasons it might not suit you, and a Texas-licensed physician prescribes only when treatment is appropriate.

Medically reviewed by John Venzor, DO, Board Certified, Internal Medicine (ABIM), licensed in Texas. Last reviewed October 8, 2026. This section is educational and does not replace individualized medical advice.

Is online vaginal estrogen treatment legal in Texas?

Yes, and Texas is unusually clear about it. Telemedicine here is governed by Texas Occupations Code Chapter 111. Before 2017 the state effectively required a face-to-face or live-video encounter first. Senate Bill 1107 removed that: Section 111.005 now lets a physician establish a valid practitioner-patient relationship and prescribe from a written record of your history and symptoms, without a prior in-person exam and without a video call. Estradiol is not a controlled substance, so a Texas-licensed physician can review your history and prescribe it online. Vyta.co does not prescribe controlled substances through this service.

What is genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM)?

Estrogen keeps the tissue of the vagina, vulva, urethra, and bladder thick, elastic, and well supplied with blood. When estrogen falls around menopause, that tissue thins and dries, vaginal pH rises, and the mix of bacteria changes. The result is dryness, burning, pain with sex, and urinary symptoms such as urgency and repeat UTIs. Doctors call the whole picture genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Older names for it are vaginal atrophy and atrophic vaginitis. The American Urological Association estimates that 27% to 84% of women have symptoms after menopause. Unlike hot flashes, GSM does not settle down over time, and it often goes untreated.

How low-dose vaginal estrogen works

Vaginal estrogen puts a small amount of estradiol directly on the tissue that needs it. Over several weeks the vaginal lining thickens, natural moisture and stretch return, and pH drops back toward its premenopausal range, which lets protective bacteria recover. Because the dose is low and local, very little is absorbed, and blood estrogen levels generally stay within the normal postmenopausal range.

The 2025 AUA/SUFU/AUGS guideline recommends that clinicians offer low-dose vaginal estrogen for dryness, irritation, and painful sex, and it has more evidence behind it than any other GSM treatment.

Cream or vaginal tablets?

Estradiol cream 0.01% is measured with a reusable applicator, and your physician may suggest dabbing a small amount on the vaginal opening when the soreness is external. It is the least expensive option. Estradiol 10 mcg vaginal tablets are small tablets placed with a single-use applicator. They are less messy and deliver a fixed dose, at a higher pharmacy price.

Both work. The mailed option is the cream. If you send your prescription to your own pharmacy, the assessment asks which form you prefer, and your physician takes that into account.

How to use it, and how long it takes

You start with a dose at bedtime every night for two weeks, then use it twice a week on the same two days each week. Expect gradual change. Most women notice a difference within the first month or two, and improvement continues through about 12 weeks.

GSM is a long-term condition, so symptoms usually return if you stop. Your prescription has no refills, so you start a new visit about two weeks before you run out. Avoid using the cream as a lubricant right before sex, because a partner can absorb it and it can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms.

Is vaginal estrogen safe?

For most women, yes. Low-dose vaginal estrogen is a different treatment from the hormone therapy taken as a pill or patch. For about 20 years its label carried the same boxed warning as those systemic products, a warning drawn from a trial of oral hormones. In November 2025 the FDA announced it would remove that warning from low-dose vaginal estrogen.

You do not need to take a progestogen with it, and the AUA guideline advises against routine endometrial monitoring for women who use it. Side effects are usually mild: vaginal discharge, irritation in the first weeks, breast tenderness, and the occasional yeast infection. Tell your physician about any vaginal bleeding, which always needs to be checked.

When online treatment is appropriate

Telehealth suits women in perimenopause or after menopause whose symptoms fit the usual pattern: dryness, burning, pain with sex, or urinary urgency that came on gradually. The AUA guideline notes that clinicians usually diagnose GSM from symptoms.

The same guideline also recommends a genitourinary exam, so keep up with routine gynecologic care, and see a clinician in person if your symptoms have not improved after 12 weeks of treatment.

When to see a doctor in person

Online care is not right for everyone. See a clinician in person first if any of the following apply.

  • You are under 40
  • Vaginal bleeding that has not been evaluated, whether after menopause, between periods, or after sex
  • Breast, uterine or ovarian cancer, now or in the past (your oncologist should be part of the decision)
  • A past blood clot, stroke, or heart attack, or liver disease
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • New discharge with odor, sores, a lump, or pelvic pain

Vaginal estrogen and recurrent UTIs

After menopause, thinner tissue and a higher vaginal pH make it easier for bacteria to reach the bladder. The AUA guideline recommends low-dose vaginal estrogen for women with GSM and recurrent UTIs, to lower the risk of future infections. If you have UTI symptoms right now, start with online UTI treatment in Texas instead; vaginal estrogen prevents repeat infections but does not treat an active one. Read more about recurrent UTIs.

What about moisturizers and lubricants?

They are a reasonable first step, and you can keep using them with estrogen. A vaginal moisturizer used every few days eases day-to-day dryness, and a lubricant reduces friction during sex. Neither reverses the tissue changes. If you have tried them and still have symptoms, the AUA guideline supports adding low-dose vaginal estrogen.

No appointment is needed. You complete a secure online health assessment at any hour, and a Texas-licensed physician reviews it, usually within a few hours. There is no video call. Yes. Under Texas Occupations Code Chapter 111, Section 111.005, a physician may establish a valid practitioner-patient relationship and prescribe from a written record of your history and symptoms, without a prior in-person exam and without a video call. Estradiol is not a controlled substance, so a Texas-licensed physician can review your visit and prescribe low-dose vaginal estrogen online when it is appropriate.
Texas Occupations Code Section 111.005
Yes. You need to be physically in Texas at the time of your visit, because the physician who reviews it is licensed in Texas. If you are traveling out of state, wait until you are back in Texas to start. Your cream can be mailed to any Texas address, or your prescription sent to any Texas pharmacy.

Low-dose vaginal estrogen treats the vaginal and urinary symptoms of menopause: dryness, burning, irritation, pain with sex, urinary urgency, and repeat UTIs. Doctors group these under genitourinary syndrome of menopause, or GSM. It does not treat hot flashes or night sweats, which call for a different kind of hormone therapy.
For dryness, painful sex, and urinary symptoms
Vyta.co physicians prescribe FDA-approved generic estradiol, as the 0.01% vaginal estrogen cream or as 10 mcg vaginal tablets. The mailed option is the cream. If you send your prescription to your own pharmacy, you can say which form you prefer, and your physician decides based on that, your symptoms, and your health history.
FDA-approved generic estradiol
Improvement is gradual. Most women notice a difference within the first month or two, and symptoms keep improving through about 12 weeks. A lubricant or vaginal moisturizer can help while you wait.
Full effect at about 12 weeks
For most women, yes. The dose is low and acts locally, so very little reaches the bloodstream. In November 2025 the FDA announced it would remove the boxed warning from low-dose vaginal estrogen, a warning that came from studies of oral hormone therapy. Vaginal estrogen is still not right for everyone, and your physician reviews your history before prescribing.
A low dose that acts locally
That decision belongs with your oncologist. The AUA guideline allows low-dose vaginal estrogen for some women with a history of breast cancer, as a shared decision with the cancer care team. Vyta.co does not start vaginal estrogen online for women with a history of breast cancer.
Talk with your oncologist first
There are two ways to pay, and both cover the online visit, the physician review, and follow-up messages about your treatment. For $49, your prescribed estradiol cream is included and mailed to you. For $39, your prescription is sent to your own pharmacy in Texas and you pay the pharmacy for the medication, where generic estradiol cream typically runs $30 to $45 a tube with a free pharmacy discount card. No insurance is required, and you can pay with an HSA or FSA card. If a physician decides treatment is not appropriate, you receive a full refund.
Full refund if treatment is not appropriate
Probably. GSM is a long-term condition, and symptoms usually return when treatment stops, so most women stay on a maintenance dose twice a week. Your prescription has no refills. About two weeks before you run out, you start a new visit at the same price, and a physician reviews how treatment is going before prescribing again.
A new visit for each refill
Yes, for women whose repeat UTIs began around menopause. The 2025 AUA/SUFU/AUGS guideline recommends low-dose vaginal estrogen to lower the risk of future infections in women with GSM and recurrent UTIs. It does not treat an active UTI, which needs an antibiotic.
Recommended by the 2025 AUA guideline
